BLUE SPRUCE AWARD
We will be reading several different stories over the next month for this award. They children are graphing if they like the the stories or not. We will give Mrs. Collier our information and it will be sent on to determine a winner. After each story we are having a "Tug of Thought" to discover our opinions about the story.
We will be reading several different stories over the next month for this award. They children are graphing if they like the the stories or not. We will give Mrs. Collier our information and it will be sent on to determine a winner. After each story we are having a "Tug of Thought" to discover our opinions about the story.
The first story we read is "The Artist and Me". It is the tale of children and adults in a community who "torment" and "ridicule" a man because he is different from them. We mad a very nice connection to Chicken Big with this story! It turns out the man is actually Vincent Van Gogh, who sees the world so differently and beautifully. The little boy in the story learns a valuable lesson about not joining in with a group of people to bully someone else. Many of the children felt sad for Van Gogh when the story was over. We all admired his artwork though and it was wonderful to introduce them to Starry Night! The song below is "Don't Laugh at Me", which helps us make another connection to the story.
